Hocking’s distinctive residential and applied-learning model sets it apart in Ohio. At the same time, the state’s outcomes-based funding environment places a premium on persistence and completion, while the College’s published technology priorities point toward greater standardization, continuity, and self-service.

Three things caught our attention.

1. Hocking’s operating model has to support the outcomes its funding model rewards. Persistence and completion are not simply academic measures; they depend on the administrative and technology processes that shape advising, registration, financial aid, records, and student service. The opportunity is to make sure the operating model gives the College enough visibility and capacity to act on those outcomes.
2. Hocking has already identified important technology priorities. The College’s published priorities include areas such as standardization, continuity, lifecycle planning, self-service, and cross-training. That provides a useful starting point for asking whether the current delivery model has the scope and capacity to move those priorities forward at the pace Hocking needs.
3. Distinctive programs require a support model that protects institutional capacity. Hocking’s residential and applied-learning model is an institutional strength, but it also creates complexity. The question is whether scarce internal expertise is being used on the work only Hocking can do — or being absorbed by technology and administrative tasks that could be supported differently.
