HCU has set an ambitious growth trajectory to 10,000 students while simultaneously transitioning from its on-premise Banner and Degree Works environment to the Ellucian SaaS Platform. Three things caught our attention.

1. Growth and platform transition are happening at the same time. The new environment will shape how HCU supports students and administrative operations for years. The important question is whether the transition is simply moving today’s processes into a new platform or creating an operating model designed for the institution HCU intends to become.
2. A 10,000-student institution will place different demands on administrative capacity. Some costs and workloads should scale with enrollment; others should not. Understanding that distinction now can help HCU avoid building a future model that depends on adding people, manual work, and recurring cost in lockstep with growth.
3. The steady state matters as much as the implementation. During a major transition, project work can obscure what the long-term environment will actually require. HCU benefits from a clear view of what has transitioned, what remains manual, where recurring cost and capacity sit, and what the operating model will look like once the project phase ends.
