Rider’s March to Sustainability plan has already required meaningful choices about cost and structure, including an $11.7 million savings target. In that environment, every significant recurring commitment deserves a clear view of the value, capacity, and flexibility it provides.

Three things caught our attention.

1. The managed IT model is a significant recurring commitment worth testing independently. The point is not to assume the arrangement is too expensive. It is to understand what Rider is buying, what it is consuming, what internal effort sits around the scope, and whether the economics still align with the University’s current needs.
2. Sustainability requires looking at cost and capacity together. Reducing a contract line is not useful if the work simply returns to University staff. A financially meaningful review has to examine total coverage, specialized expertise, internal workload, and the operating risk associated with each model.
3. Rider has changed since the current model began in 2022. As the University continues its sustainability work, an independent view can help clarify whether scope, service levels, and recurring cost are still sized appropriately for the institution today.

1. March to Sustainability is actively shaping the budget and cost structure. A major recurring operating commitment is most useful to review while those assumptions are still open.
2. There is now several years of operating history under the current model. That provides enough evidence to assess scope, service, internal effort, and economics against actual experience.
3. A future renewal will commit Rider to another cycle. The right time to understand the options and tradeoffs is before that decision becomes urgent.

This is a useful moment to step back because the evaluation is most valuable while important choices are still open — before the next operating model becomes the default.
