November 18, 2009, Sarasota, Florida - CampusWorks Inc. (CWI), an information technology management firm specializing exclusively in higher education solutions, announced that The Community College of Baltimore County, MD (CCBC) has extended its technology management services contract with CampusWorks through December 2012. CCBC’s Board of Trustees approved the contract extension based on the recommendation of President Sandra Kurtinitis, Ph.D.
CCBC, established in 1957, consists of three main campuses and two extension centers. Under the leadership of President Kurtinitis, CCBC enrolls nearly 65,000 students and has an operating budget of $168.7 million, making it the largest college in Maryland and one of the largest institutions of higher education in the country.
In 2007 CCBC awarded CampusWorks a multi-year IT management contract based on a highly competitive procurement process and an extensive due diligence of all of the competing companies’ respective track record and performance. The recent contract extension validates the initial selection and is a result of outstanding performance by CampusWorks’ on-site staff, the CampusWorks just-in-time specialist resources, and CCBC’s capable IT staff.
CampusWorks, with the College Administration’s unwavering support and teamwork by the CCBC talented IT staff, achieved many significant results in a short period of time. These accomplishments have improved the College competitively in its marketplace and positioned CCBC to enhance support of their student success objectives, operate more efficiently with reduced operating costs, and provide a higher level of consistent service throughout the College in line with its One College model.
In reference to the Administration’s support, Dr. Darrow Neves, CampusWorks Vice President of Operations and Chief Technology Officer at CCBC, commented that, “The President and her cabinet have exhibited strong leadership on every occasion where difficult technology decisions were required. I also want to acknowledge the strong contribution from the CCBC Information Technology Services department for our accomplishments. It has been my privilege to lead this group of professionals. I know I speak for my CampusWorks colleagues who have contributed to the successes at CCBC that the CCBC College staff have responded to our leadership, the CampusWorks business model, and worked hard to accomplish the goals and objectives we have established at this fine College.”
This impressive group effort led to the successful completion of many high-priority projects at CCBC including: reorganization of the Information Technology Services department, creation of a new helpdesk and technology support center, increased support for academic systems and smart classrooms, implementation of identity management, Microsoft SharePoint and a student portal, enhancements to the Banner system, development of a data warehouse integrated to the Banner system, completion of a major re-engineering and upgrade of the College telephone systems, implementation of a broad set of services for emergency communications, security, and business continuity, among many other accomplishments.
As part of the contract extension, CampusWorks will continue to fill the positions of Chief Technology Officer/Chief Information Security Officer and Director of the Project Management Office/Director of Networks and Infrastructure. The College also extended the use of CampusWorks’ cadre of specialist resources to provide project management and subject matter specialists in the initiatives noted above.
This extension adds to CampusWorks’ long-term partnerships with community colleges throughout North America. Most recently, CampusWorks signed a technology management contract extension with Bunker Hill Community College, MA, creating a 15-year IT partnership.
