The Dallas County Community College District Selects CampusWorks to Lead a Comprehensive IT Assessment and Tactical Planning Overview

August 6, 2008, Sarasota, FL - CampusWorks (CWI), an Information Technology management and solutions firm specializing exclusively in technology management and planning services for community colleges, is pleased to announce a contract with the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), TX.

DCCCD, under the leadership of Dr. Wright Lassiter, Chancellor, is the largest undergraduate institution in the State of Texas, consisting of seven Colleges - Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland - plus the R. Jan LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications. Since its inception in 1965, DCCCD has served more than 1.5 million people and currently enrolls over 85,000 students.

DCCCD selected CampusWorks to review the District’s key IT areas and to ensure that DCCCD remains a leader in providing highly responsive educational technology and exemplary technology services throughout the District. CampusWorks technology planning effort will utilize a “best practice” approach to conduct a comprehensive review of the current and projected state of technology at DCCCD.

Under this new contract, CampusWorks will provide a team of Senior IT experts that will work closely with Ed DesPlas, Vice Chancellor, Business Affairs, the DCCCD administration, faculty and talented IT staff. This team will work with the District to identify and enhance IT service delivery options that continue to produce substantial returns on the District’s major IT investments. The Comprehensive IT Assessment and Tactical Planning Overview will focus on the four main technology service areas listed below:

  1. Datatel Colleague and interrelated administrative systems
  2. Distance learning and Blackboard Academic Suite/Related Instructional Delivery Systems 
  3. District web design
  4. Interrelated IT Enterprise services including networking and systems infrastructure, personal computer support and hardware/software maintenance, help-desk user support, library automation system(s), cyber security and identity management, disaster recovery and business continuity.

This review and planning overview will culminate in a comprehensive Executive Council Technology Planning Retreat which will focus on the role of technology at DCCCD, a discussion of IT priorities and strategy, and recommendations for continued strengthening of the above technology service areas.
