Drs. Larry Tyree and Norm Nielsen have joined CampusWorks’ Executive Advisory Board

July, 2007

Dr. Larry Tyree
Dr. Tyree has been serving community colleges for 35 years and will continue to do so in his new role at CampusWorks.  In Florida, Dr. Tyree has served as President of Gulf Coast Community College for twelve years and as President of Santa Fe Community College for an additional eleven years.  Dr. Tyree has also served as Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District and most recently as Interim President at Johnson County Community College, KS.

A native of Pensacola, Florida, Dr. Tyree currently lives in Sarasota.  He is a graduate of Pensacola Junior College and holds a doctoral degree in education from Indiana University at Bloomington. Dr. Tyree is also a League Fellow of the League for Innovation in the Community College and received the American Association of Community Colleges’ National Leadership Award in 2004.  He served as board chair of the American Association of Community Colleges in 1987-1988 and of the League for Innovation in 1995.

Dr. Norm Nielsen

Dr. Norm Nielsen’s decision to join CampusWorks’ Executive Advisory Board is based in large part on his recent position at the Houston Community College System (HCCS), TX.  While serving as the Interim Chancellor at HCCS Dr. Nielsen personally witnessed the accomplishments of the CWI technology management team leading the System-wide IT transformation initiative.

Dr. Nielsen’s experience with community colleges is both deep and broad.  Prior to HCCS, Dr. Nielsen served as President for Kirkwood Community College, IA, where he was designated as Emeritus for his tireless leadership and outstanding educational and community commitment.  During his term, Kirkwood CC experienced remarkable growth, including enrollment that expanded from 6,308 to 12,555 students, making it the third largest higher education institution in the State, and an endowment that increased from zero to $5 million.

Dr. Nielsen has earned numerous awards and distinctions for his work in the educational community. In 1995 he received the Iowa State University’s Laureate Award for prestigious service, education leadership and personal commitment to the teaching profession. He is also the recipient of the Henry Olson Distinguished Service Award.

In 2001, the Association of Community College Trustees named Dr. Nielsen as the Central Region Chief Executive Officer and honored him with the Mary Y. Martin Chief Executive Officer of the Year award, which is the nation’s most prestigious national community leadership award for Innovation in the Community College. Dr. Nielsen has also served as the President of the League for Innovation in the Community College.

For CampusWorks, both Dr. Tyree and Dr. Nielsen will serve in an advisory role dedicated to providing accurate, relevant and strategic direction to our community college colleagues based on their knowledge and firsthand experience of CampusWorks’ superb performance. Their varied experience at community colleges throughout the country will provide CampusWorks with a wonderful opportunity to continue to serve our current and future clients.
